The One question I would not want the answer to would be “How many opportunities have I missed to better myself before?” I don’t want to know about my past just about my present and future. I would like to know what would happen in my future but not in my past.
If the electoral collage was abolished and people had to vote, I would want the law to be mostly the same. I would want to change the age needed to vote from 18 to 21 because at 21 your most likely paying your own bills in the future. You would vote for the guy to keep money in your pocket. But that could be a problem also because they could vote for the guy who gives you money but has terible ideas. Thats why the presidents ideas should be voted on over the supreme court.
It is 1838, my wife and 3 kids are being forced to move away from are land. Are houses have been burned and possessions taken. All of our farms have been raffled to the whites and many have been executed for not leaving. We are being forced to give up are land east of the Mississippi river. Many other tribes have been evacuated; we are the last to be deported. The Cherokee, our tribe is moving in packs to the west. We have travelled 600 miles, and we are half way there. Many of us have faced hunger, exhaustion, and death.
This all started in 1829 when gold was found around are land. Georgia residents started to trespass on are land and when we told them to get out, they took their case to the Supreme Court. Georgia wanted the gold but so did are tribe. That’s when the first gold rush of the US began. And now President Jackson is forcing us to leave is land. Are old land is now going to be used for cotton fields and mining. We were captured by the military (who were sent out by Jackson) and put in concentration camp waiting to get shipped off to the west. There were not enough boats to take us west so we were sent off to walk. Many had wagons, horses, and other ways to get there. We had one horse, which my wife rode. My 2 kids and I have to walk. We had ripped cloth and no shoes. At times I feel like we will not make it. I have not eaten for 3 days. I’m thirsty, hungry, and tired, but I have to keep moving.
Some of our people were allowed to stay in hiding in the mountains. They were kept a secret and were saved by William Holland Thomas who was adopted by are people as a young boy. They are not being forced to leave because they were owned by William Thomas which made them legal to stay.
When we arrive in the new land, I will start a farm and live off of that. By then, many of us will die. The tribe will not be the same; and the laws made will not help us. We will have to do it all on are own.
Era of Good Feelings: After the war of 1812 the U.S had a period of peace and pride. When Monroe was elected in 1816 people said there would be an “era of good feeling.” Many conflicts occurred with the American borders.
Monroe Doctrine: Monroe was afraid Europe would try to take over America, so he invented the Monroe doctrine. The Monroe doctrine was a statement that said that north and South America were off limits to new settlers.
Missouri Compromise: Was a proposal that Missouri would be a union state. Main also joined as a union state. It also stated that any new state formed in the north would not be able to have slaves.
American System (Cumberland Road, Erie Canal): Henry clay wanted to use the tariffs money to build better roads, canals, and water ways. So clay was going to high the prices to pay for theses changes.
Election of 1824: Many senators thought that Jackson had made a bargain with clay which influenced the vote.
Changes in Voting Rights:
Election of 1828: Many of Jackson’s supporters started calling themselves the Democratic Party.
Rise of the Democratic Party.
Democracy to me is goverment run by the people. It is established by the electoral votes.
I define a person by there actions. Someone’s intentions can be a certain thing but there actions turn out a different way.
For example: Albert Einstein created the atomic bomb to save Americans life. He then used it and killed hundreds of thousands of innocent non American lives.
His intentions could have been to only kill those who weren’t innocent. But his actions ended up killing innocent lives. I would judge him on what he did not what he thought.
I believe that actions can be more effective then just a simple thought.
